Tech companies learnt VC’s language, why can’t Media Companies?

We rarely have trouble understanding what tech companies are offering in exchange for capital. Pitch decks and proposals outline the strategy and the ask, and we didn’t have to educate their founders on what equity meant.

I have yet to see a film pitch that doesn’t confuse equity for debt, and no thought whatsoever for how investors really make decisions. And now there are so many other opportunities that are NOT film finance.

Am I the only one thinking that media entrepreneurs could spend some time learning how investors think? The tech guys understand how VCs work. That makes it so much easier to do a deal.
